1. We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the word of God, and the only rule of faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:15-17; 2 Peter 1:19; Acts 15:11
2. We believe that there is but one only living and true God; that there are three persons in the Godhead, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, who are equal in nature, power and glory, and that the Son and the Holy Ghost are as truly and as properly God as the Father.
Deuteronomy 6:4; 1 Corinthians 8:6; 2 Corinthians 3:17; John 10:30; 1 John 5:7; 1 John 5:20
3. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, being set up from everlasting as the Mediator of the new covenant, and he, having engaged to be the surety of his people, did, in the fullness of time, really assume human nature, and not before, neither in whole nor in part: in which nature he really suffered and died as their substitute, in their room and stead, whereby he made all that satisfaction for their sins, which the law and justice of God could require, as well as made way for all those blessings which are needful for them both for time and eternity.
Proverbs 8:22,23; Hebrews 12:24, 7:22; Hebrews 2:14-17; Romans 8:1,3,4; John 10:11,15; 12:27; Isaiah 53:10-12; Mark 14:34
4. We believe in the eternal and personal election of persons to eternal life.

5. We believe in the total ruin and helplessness of man by the fall.
Genesis 1:26; Ecclesiastes 7:29; Romans 5:12; Ephesians 2:3; Romans 8:7-8; Hebrews 9:28; Ephesians 1:7; Romans 5:18
6. We believe that the eternal redemption which Christ has obtained by his sacrifice and death is special and particular.
Romans 8:33-34; Matthew 10:28; John 10:11,15; Ephesians 1:7; Revelation 5:9
7. We believe that persons are justified by the imputed righteousness of Christ alone.
Romans 3:28; 4:6, 5:16-18, 3:25; Ephesians 1:7; Colossians 2:13
8. We believe that regeneration, conversion, sanctification and faith, are by the Spirit and grace of God.
James 1:18; 1 Peter 1:13; John 1:13, 3:5-6; Philippians 2:13; 2 Timothy 1:9
9. We believe that the life and conversation of true believers should be such as becometh the gospel.
10. We believe in the final perseverance of those called by grace (who are designated saints).
John 6:39-40, 10:28-29; Hebrews 2:13; Philippians 1:6; Romans 8:30
11. We believe in the resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust; in the future judgment by Christ; in the eternal happiness of the righteous; and the everlasting punishment of such as die impenitent.
Acts 24:15; John 5:28-29; Daniel 12:2; Acts 17:31; Revelation 10:11-15
12. We believe in the practice of baptism by immersion to such only as are of years of understanding, upon their own confession of repentance towards God, and faith in and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ, and that such baptised believers only are to be admitted either to the Church or to the Lord's Supper.
Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:16; Acts 2:41; 1 Corinthians 11:23-25; Acts 8:37-38; John 3:23; Romans 6:4
Now all and each of these doctrines and ordinances we look upon ourselves under the greatest obligations to embrace, maintain and defend; believing it to be our duty to stand fast, in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the Gospel. |
